Free Kefir

Kefir is a delicious, nutritious, fermented milk product somewhat similar to yogurt, but also somewhat different, which originated in the Caucasus mountain regions.
It can be make at home simply by inoculating milk with kefir "grains" - the usual method is to put the kefir in a large jar, pour in 400-500mL of milk, cover the top with a clean cloth and let sit in the dark at room tempurature for 24 - 48 hours. it's that easy.

The so called kefir grains are not really true grains, but a combination of bacteria and yeasts existing symbiotically in a matrix of protein, lipids and sugars. the microorganisms feed off and ferment the milk producing a slightly sour yogurt-like product.

The health benefits of home-made kefir are multifold; it improves the nutrient content of the milk, acts as a catalyst to improve lactose digestion, is proven to have antimutagenenic and antioxidant properties, can colonise the intestines out-competing "bad" bacteria and yeasts, also increasing endogenous lactase levels, the list goes on!

alternatives to dairy can also be used to produce varying kefir products, including soy milk, coconut milk, rice milk, sugar-water, and so on.

part of the magic that is kefir, is that it multiplies itself with constant feeding, meaning you can continue to re-use and make your own kefir, eat some yourself, and give some to friends

for more information i recommend Dom's excellent site >
http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html

so you want some FREE kefir? your gobblin' gut goblins will thank you
the only thing that's asked of you in return is to follow in true kefir style, and continue spreading your Kefir to others! i can't make you do it, but don't blame me if the goblins find you in your sleep!

here we will start a Kefir Kommunity
as long as i have excess kefir grains they will be available for free from this site. send me an email with your postal address and away we go.
if in the future you also have some excess kefir, leave your email in the comments and we will compile a list of kefir donors.

that's it for now, recipe ideas and more to come, this post will be updated soon...

Bovine Intervention

Bovine Intervention
by Gobblin'Goblin

i'd sooner sit a service
in front this priest with horns
those eyes of udder purity
one look and i'm reborn

your church of rain and sun so hy-
phae play and dance below
'neath foot and hoof the magic spreads
til fruits of golden grow

so don't be shy when i hop the fence
i've no beef with you
i come to offer prayers and thanks
for your friends who's skin turns blue

a holy symbiosis
my-celial redemption
taste the flesh of god
this is bovine intervention

Curtain creatures - Goblin lino print

first experiment with lino printing
the design utilises some aspects of sacred geometry in an attempt to make use of the laws of 'natural beauty', all points projected out from central vesica piscis.
the origin of the laughing goblin logo
somewhat inspired by the 'curtain creatures', or the ambiguous faces one might see in the repeating floral patterns on curtains, rugs, etc
printed on cotton fabric (my print technique could use some work)

9 repeats

single tile

Elderwood

my first attempt at wood carving.
the intent was to just let the 'spirit' of the wood emerge as i work, rather than establish a plan in the beginning. i like the wavy grain of this wood, but a little more challenging to work with. the face reminds me of an aboriginal elder, a fairly simple piece of woodwork but the face speaks a thousand stories. could use a coat of oil/wax
